Championing The Course Of Justice

All over the world, advocacy has been how so many struggles have been won. From the dark ages down to modern civilisation, the role of advocacy cannot be sidelined.

With regards to today’s realities in New South Wales and generally Australia, advocacy is becoming even more relevant. It is how so many struggles have taken a new turn and are sustained.

For us at New South Wales Communities Legal Centres, we do not belittle the roles of advocacy in our struggle. That is why we continue to push for more advocacy in diverse areas that concern people and communities in New South Wales.

Some of the areas we are currently stretching our advocacy to include;

Issues of Children & Young People

For us, at New South Wales Communities Legal Centres, children & young people are part of our focus. We are concerned about the enforcement and respect of the rights of these set of people. And we believe that they should be respected as well as we all respect the rights of adults.

We place reliance on the UN Convention on Child’s Rights and different municipal laws. We also consider other relevant international laws and treaties to champion the call for the respect of the rights of children & young people.

Issues of Environment

The environment has great parts to play in the life of everyone. Aside from this, there is also an angle of social justice to the environment. This angle is very important if there is to be a creation of a community and people with equal access to justice. For us at New South Wales Communities Legal Centres, we believe that the protection of the environment has a vital role to play in achieving social justice. This, without doubt, is because a health and clean environment will greatly impact the quality of life and life itself.

Issues of Housing & Tenancy

No doubt, housing is a fundamental part of human’s life. We believe that housing is not just a fundamental human right; it is a precursor to achieving many basic things in life. While housing is important and should be available to everyone, the tenancy is also equally important. This is because the right to tenancy is integral to housing security residents of New South Wales that are disadvantaged. This is why we at New South Wales Communities Legal Centres have taken it upon ourselves to see to housing security and protection of tenancy rights in New South Wales.

Issues of LGBT+

There are considerable differences in our biological orientation. These differences are what set some people apart. It is important to recognises that these differences are normal. In pushing for more acceptance of the LGBT+ community, we believe that gender identity and sexual orientation are integral to the dignity of every person. We also believe that these gender identification and sexual orientation should not be the basis upon which people are discriminated.
